I Realized I Wasn't Starting Over

Sometimes what feels like starting over is really the beginning of becoming someone new.

I thought I was rebuilding my life from scratch. What I didn’t realize was that I wasn’t returning to the beginning—I was moving forward with everything the last chapter had taught me.

I Realized I WAsn't Starting Over

Sometimes starting over doesn’t feel brave or exciting. Sometimes it feels like standing in the middle of a life you thought you understood and wondering, How did I end up back here?

That’s exactly how I felt.

I looked around at everything that had changed—the plans that didn’t work out, the doors that closed, the things I had to let go of—and I convinced myself that somehow I had ended up back at the beginning.

But I was wrong.

I wasn’t starting over.

I was starting again—with experience.

What I Carried With Me

The truth was, I wasn’t walking into this chapter empty-handed.

I carried lessons I had paid for with time, tears, wrong turns, and more than a few “well… I won’t be doing THAT again” moments. 😂

I carried boundaries I didn’t have before. I knew what I could no longer accept just to keep the peace. I knew that saying no didn’t make me difficult, and choosing myself didn’t make me selfish.

I carried proof that I could survive days I once thought would break me.

And maybe most importantly, I carried a better understanding of myself.

The woman beginning this chapter wasn’t the same woman who began the last one.

She knew more now.

Nothing Was Wasted

I used to look back at certain seasons of my life and wish I could erase them.

The mistakes. The delays. The relationships that didn’t last. The plans that fell apart. The choices I would make differently now.

But eventually I realized something:

Nothing was wasted.

Even the chapters I would never choose to relive taught me something I needed for the chapter I was walking into.

The disappointment taught me discernment.

The waiting taught me patience.

The heartbreak taught me what I deserved.

The wrong turns taught me how to recognize the right direction.

And the moments when I thought I had completely lost myself?

Those were often the moments I began discovering who I really was.

Maybe starting again wasn’t proof that I had failed.

Maybe it was proof that I had grown enough to choose differently.

What Are You Carrying Forward?

Think about a chapter of your life you once wished you could erase. What did it teach you that you are carrying into the person you are becoming?
