For years, she was the person everyone could count on.
She showed up. She listened. She helped. She made room for everyone else’s needs, problems, dreams, and emergencies.
And somewhere along the way, she stopped making room for herself.
At first, she didn’t even notice it happening. Being dependable felt like love. Saying yes felt like being a good person. Putting herself last felt normal.
Until one day, she realized she was exhausted from living a life where everybody had a place in it except her.
The hardest part wasn’t admitting that something needed to change.
The hardest part was choosing herself without feeling guilty about it.
She had spent so much time worrying about disappointing other people that she never stopped to ask herself one simple question:
“What happens if I keep disappointing me?”
That question changed everything.
She didn’t suddenly stop caring about people. She didn’t become selfish. She simply began understanding that loving others should not require abandoning herself.
And for the first time in a long time, she chose herself.
Not because everyone understood.
Not because it was easy.
Because she finally understood that she mattered too.
Choosing yourself doesn’t always mean making a huge change. Sometimes it means saying no without explaining yourself. Sometimes it means resting without feeling guilty. Sometimes it means finally making space for the dream you keep putting off.
What is one way you could choose yourself in this season of your life?
